At Chrysalis we are committed to employing high-quality staff with relevant qualifications

For children aged 0-2 years we operate a ratio of one member of staff to every three children. For children aged 2-3 years a ratio of one member of staff to every four children and for children 3-5 years a ratio of one staff member to every eight children. These are our minimum requirements and we aim to exceed these. We have a Manager and a deputy at the Church Hill site and a Manager at the Pre-school site who are supernumerary and therefore can help when needed as necessary.

Every child will be allocated a key person who is responsible for setting your child’s target and reviewing their progress and liaising with parents to keep you informed. Children’s progress files can be accessed by parents freely whenever you wish.

We have qualified Chefs at all the sites who are committed to producing healthy menus with fresh ingredients daily.

We have specialist members of staff who run sessions in various rooms. All extra-curricular sessions are included in the fees.

Kate Hersey

Director

I am Kate Hersey the Director of Chrysalis Nursery & Pre-School, which was established in 2012. I have a Batchelor of Education Degree from Brunel University, which led me into teaching secondary aged children. I have always had a passion for teaching the younger children so decided to come into early years and that’s when Chrysalis evolved. We have created a homely environment for children to learn and are well equipped with high quality, natural resources. I love watching their development and am blessed to have 3 children of my own who have loved being at Chrysalis. I look forward to welcoming you soon. We are very fortunate at Chrysalis to employ specialist staff, which enhance the support and level of learning in the Nursery & Pre-School and are supernumerary to our practitioners.

Tina Issac

Deputy Manager

My name is Tina Isaac, and I have been in childcare for nearly 22 years. I am married with one son, and I live in Epping.

I started off becoming a registered childminder from home when I had my little boy. Once he joined a nursery, I also became a staff member of that nursery, working in the baby room. Once my son started school, I wanted to develop my career and began working in a special needs school, which, although very challenging, was also amazing and taught me so much about myself. During this time, I completed training in Makaton and many other skills needed to help and work with children with SEN needs. The school had children with various degrees of autism and complex needs. I have also worked one-to-one in a school with children who need additional help. Over my career, I have ventured into many different aspects of childcare, working with children who can not access school due to anxiety or medical needs and have worked with them at home and also with the schools. During this time, I was lucky enough to also spend 2 days a week working in the school room of the children’s ward in Harlow hospital, where I met many amazing and resilient young children.

Once my son became older and needed me less, I was able to go back to a nursery full-time, where I completed my level 3 in childcare and worked my way up to a deputy room leader in pre-school, then to room leader. Having that responsibility not only for the children but also for staff has been a challenge, from which I have learnt many lessons and skills.

I joined Chrysalis in March this year, and it has been one of the best decisions I have made. The staff and management are extremely helpful and have an open-door policy. They encourage self-development in everyone, and the nursery is a joy to work in. Since joining Chrysalis as a room leader in pre-school, I have been given the wonderful opportunity to be deputy manager, and I hope to fulfil the role with professionalism and make Chrysalis proud.
